    Now Listening: Promises by Maverick City

    People closest to me know I hardly make promises because I made a commitment to myself years ago to not use that word in order not to dig up hurtful memories. When people you love and trust make promises and fail to stick to their commitment, it always hurts.  When promising circumstances fall through the cracks, it hurts more. When it seems like God’s promises are void in my life, it hurts the most.

    When I think about parents, brothers, sisters, husbands, children, and children who have had to promise their infected loved ones that ‘Everything is going to be alright’ over the past 8 weeks of the pandemic, I also wonder ‘ What about God’s promise of the gift of life? Why do we have to deal with so much hurt and deaths of great magnitude?

    Finding this song then reminded me of our own promise; our commitment to God about praising Him at all times. My favorite part of the song goes;

    God from age to age,
    Though the earth may pass away, Your word remains the same
    Your history can prove there’s nothing
    You can’t do, You’re faithful and True
    Though the storms may come and the
    Winds may blow I’ll remain steadfast
    And let my heart learn when You speak a word it will come to pass.
